The Drama Festival becomes the “ticket” to the Oscars®
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected the Drama International Short Film Festival among the world’s top film festivals.
It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that the Drama International Short Film Festival is announcing that it has received the status for the Oscar®qualifying short films in its International and National Competition Program.
From now on, the Drama Festival officially becomes a “ticket” to the Oscar Awards.
The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected the world’s leading festivals to collaborate in the formation of the final list of short films eligible to compete for the Academy Award for Best Short Film. The Academy allows films that win first prize at these festivals to automatically qualify for the category shortlist, provided they meet the Academy standards.
Thus, the two short films that receive a Golden Dionysus, i.e. the Best Film Award at the National Competition, and the Best Film Grand Prix at the DISFF International Competition each September, will automatically secure the coveted “ticket” to participate in the Oscar process, which may lead them to the final five for the Best Short Film Oscar.
This development rewards the efforts that the Drama Festival has made over the years to distinguish itself as one of the leading international short film festivals. It also confirms the extroversion that it has shown in recent years, as well as its timeless influence on the promotion of young cinema talents in Greece.
The association with the Academy Awards® will give Drama Festival the extra impetus needed to perform its role to the best of its ability.
