Former Vice Rector (2008 -2012) of the "I.L.Caragiale"
for Theater and Cinema, founder and Head of its Audiovisual Communication Department (1994-2008), Manuela Cernat, Ph.D., D.h.c., is a major representative of the Romanian academic world and an important Romanian cultural ambassador. Member of the Romanian Writers Union and of the Romanian Filmmakers Union, of the Scientific Council of the History of Art Institute of the Romanian Academy, Vice-President of the Société Européenne de Culture (Venice) and Honorary President of S.E.E.C.S. (South Eastern European Cinema Schools), she is presently Head of the Contemporary Art Department and Senior Researcher at the History of Art Institute of the Romanian Academy as well as UNATC associate professor and Ph.D. coach. National University
Film historian and writer, journalist and essayist, author of books on film history and books for children, of scripts for cinema and TV documentary films, host of various TV Talk Shows, since 1990 she has her own 10-minute weekly program broadcast by the National Radio Cultural Channel. In recognition of her achievements, she was granted various distinctions, among which Commander of the "Romanian Cultural Merit" Order, Cavalier of the "Italian Solidarity Star", Diploma of the
Japanese Imperial Court.
Recently she was the first Romanian film historian to receive "The Academic Excellence Prize", highest Award of the Romanian Filmmakers Union, and CILECT appointed her among the 9 members of the CILECT International Publishing Committee. She was elected Vice-President of the Societe Europeenne de Culture
